A "Day in the Life" Story
This story all occurred in a single day and shows how all our elements work together, starting with the Sunshine Store, leading to relaxation in a safe environment, and then getting to the heart of the matter:
- He walked in, wearing a hoodie and a beanie, looking uncertain.
I’ve never been here before,” he said.
- I introduced myself and simply asked,
“How can I help?”
- His answer was immediate:
“I haven’t eaten in three days.”
- Think about that.
Three days without food. No one should face that alone.
- We showed him our fridge, stocked with donated meals.
He smiled—chicken was his favorite.
- As he ate, he asked about finding a job.
We talked about Texas Workforce, quick employment, and long-term skills. And then he opened up about a moral delimma he's facing. We counselled him through the choices he needed to think through.
- Before leaving, he picked out fresh socks and a backpack—small things, but essential.
- As we neared closing time, we sent him off with groceries for the next few days.
- Before stepping out, he paused—then asked for a hug.
A simple moment that speaks volumes.
- This is what we do at Street Youth Ministry—walking alongside young adults in need.

Q4 2024 Impact
We'll have many more specific outcome and impact numbers for the entire year of 2024 soon, but in Q4, youre dollars and our team together:
- Served 83 new young clients through outreach and help line. A record!
- Provided 260 hours of SYMinU Learning experience.
- Provided 323 hours of support group
- Counseled and saw 238 young life changes for more stability (jobs, IDs, housing, transportation), sobriety (milestones and rehab), and faith connections (belief, study, membership, small groups).
- Provided 2258 meals or food bags
- Distributed 1583 clothing outfits and self-care kits.
You and friends can give direclty to support guidance and teaching. And we've recently provided new add-on options for things we seem to never have enough of. These add-ons are very approachable for new donors amongh your friends and family! Our biggest needs have been for sometime donations of men's underwear, pants, and shoes to close shortages. We limit each of these itmes at present.
Q4 2024 Financial Recap & Details
- Q4 improved financially, with higher income, but not nearly enough to counter the greatly reduced income of the rest of the year.
- We closed 2024 with our largest negative cash flow in our history, but fortunately it was exactly offset by the unusually large surplus from the previous year.
- 2024 cost have risen with inflation, move and increase client traffic by13% for 2024.. This is the second year of high cost crowth.
- Starting immeidately, we moved from cost containment efforts to cost cutting as identified by the team. We will carefully monitor 2025 progress month by month to realign expenses with income.
- The income news is not all bad!
- If we compare last year with two years ago (and ignore the amazingly good year of 2023), both church giving and grant awards increased slightly.
- It's worth repeatingly, we receive no government funding so freezes and reallocation of federal funds may not directly impact us. (The only government grant we compete for is on hold indefinitely according to FEMA).
- The single largest thing we need to maintain stability is for existing and past supporters to introduce the ministry to friends and family. This is a community driven and focussed minsitry.
