Your life, your goals, your next step.

“Your life, your rules. You can't get everything done all at once. Keep working on what matters to you.”
At Street Youth Ministry, our clients set their own agenda. We don't tell people what they should work on next because we know something important: to achieve a goal, you have to want it.
For July 2026, the goals we heard most often were housing, self care, and employment.
We don't survey clients simply to collect impressive numbers. A goal only gets counted when a client talks with our team about it. That means these are goals that were genuinely top of mind for the people we serve.
Housing: 17 Milestones
- 6 clients maintained their housing
- 11 clients found new housing
We're realists about what housing looks like. Housing of any type counts because it means someone isn't sleeping in a car or on the streets.
It might be a rented couch, a room, a shared lease, transitional housing, or another temporary arrangement. It may not be permanent. Few people suddenly go from sleeping on the street to moving into their own apartment.
Instead, housing often happens one step at a time.
Keep figuring it out. Keep moving inside. Keep moving forward.
Self Care: 16 Milestones
16 clients reached self care milestones, and almost all were new goals.
That's worth celebrating.
Deciding for yourself what you want to work on matters. Better sleep. Better nutrition. Healthier boundaries. More stability. These may seem like small things compared with housing or employment, but they create the foundation for those bigger steps.
You can't accomplish everything at once.
Your life, your rules. Keep working on what matters to you.
Employment: 11 Milestones
Employment continues to be a major theme for our clients this year.
In July:
- 5 clients maintained their jobs
- 6 clients started new jobs
There is plenty of discussion about economic uncertainty, but our clients are still finding work and proving that opportunity remains possible.
We help prepare clients for employment in practical ways. That can mean providing food, appropriate clothing, work shoes, and soft skills training to help someone succeed in an interview and make it through those critical first two weeks on the job.
Getting hired is one milestone. Keeping the job is another.
Sobriety: 4 Milestones
There were also important sobriety milestones this month:
- 2 clients maintained sobriety despite challenges
- 2 clients reported new sobriety
Substance use challenges are not part of every person's experience of homelessness. But temptation and difficult choices can affect anyone.
For clients who identify sobriety as an important goal, we make space to support that goal alongside everything else they are working toward.
There are many other goals on the list, but these three stood out in July: housing, self care, and employment.
And perhaps the most important part is that the clients chose them for themselves.
Support young adults as they set their own goals and take the next steps toward stability. Learn more about our work: https://streetyouthministry.my.site.com
